![]() ![]() Bring a PC, lots of people do.ĥ) long ago, deep in the mists of history, we could leave post after class. Sometimes they’ll be further ahead of you and will move out, leaving a vacancy for a short time. ![]() You’ll thank yourself after not having to walk up Franklin hill to the “800’s buildings” from MontyĤ) You will likely have a roommate your entire time there. But here’s the fun thing, the AF considers Alaska and Hawaii overseas, and will keep you overseas sometimes.Ģ) I don’t have a good answer for you here.ģ) Yes. Russians can go to Alaska and Chinese linguists to Hawaii. Arab linguists have some spots in Germany. It’s possible, just unlikely with some languages. Thanks in advance if you can answer any of these questions.ġ). I don’t have a good answer, it just seemed like a fun job.) ( You might be asking why I would choose to be a linguist when my career interests are so different. Here is the big open ended question: Does anyone have opinions on other areas to cross-train into after 1n3 that would open doors to better paying jobs outside the military? For some background, I studied math in college, and some of my career interests are in computer science, intelligence, and data analysis. On the flip side, if I enjoy it, I can definitely see myself being open to reenlisting. After classes, is there any restriction on leaving the base, or a curfew? And is travel outside of Monterey allowed on the weekends?Ħ) These are a few intentionally open-ended questions: what kinds of well-paying jobs are realistic after a minimum of 4 years as a 1N3? I chose a 4 yr contract because an extra 2 yrs isn’t worth $10,000 if i end up hating the job for some reason. I understand that class is 8 hours a day not including homework. What’s the parking situation like on base?Ĥ) As a single airman, do you have to share a dorm room for the entirety of DLI? Also, is it wise to bring a pc/ console when considering the space of the dorms?ĥ) TRAVEL. Is there any way to pay for your own internet service?ģ) Can you bring a car to DLI? I don’t live far from Monterey at all, and I could easily have my family drop my car off here. I’ve also heard the internet in the dorms is shit. Are students just attending online classes in their dorm? 1n3x1 duty stationsĢ) How is DLI learning during lockdown? I’ve heard a lot of class is online, and I was wondering how that works, exactly. What is the likelihood of that happening as an 1N3? I found an online list of duty stations, and wanted to check its accuracy with someone who might currently be in the job. I know some of them won’t matter until way later, but I have a few questions.ġ) I would very much like to be stationed overseas at some point. Don’t know my language yet but really REALLY hoping for Mandarin. After that I’m going to DLI (Defense Language Institute ) as a ground cryptologic language analyst/ linguist. Currently in Air Force DEP, off to basic in less than a month.
